Western Pacific & Typhoon Tracking

The Western Pacific basin — west of 180° longitude — is the most active tropical cyclone basin on Earth. Storms here are called typhoons (the same phenomenon as a hurricane, just in a different basin). The Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii issues advisories for this region.

Western Pacific naming: Typhoon names in the Western Pacific are assigned from a list maintained by the WMO's ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee. Names come from 14 member nations and territories including Japan, China, the Philippines, and the United States. The list is different from both the Atlantic and Eastern Pacific systems.
